IWS MARMAR GALLERY - Spain

Mona Omrani is a well-known artist living in Madrid, and running her family school there. She started as a teenager already, following the steps of her mother, who was an artist and teacher and transmitted her all the skills she now uses. For her, she’s the best role model and inspiration.

They always teach in a family environment to make students feel comfortable. They can choose their own subject at their own rhythm, but there’s a general training in drawing and watercolour.

The school continues today with the same methodology, which is very successful for the students who end up with their personal exhibitions.

The students learn in a very warm atmosphere becoming good friends and sharing exhibitions, as well as classes. They feel in a protected environment with a close relationship with their teachers: they don’t feel embarrassed to make mistakes in front of their mates as acceptance is a big priority. They would like to see their students grow internationally, as they give meaning to the school.

Mona feels that teaching brings her peace of mind and enough stimulation for her creativity. She likes to learn new techniques to express her feelings better through watercolour and to leave this legacy to her students is an extra motivation. She’s a vocational teacher and adores her job, and transmits that love to her students.

If she didn’t have a limitation of money or space she’d love to have a more personalised attention to her students, more space for exhibitions and hold talks and workshops by national and international artists. A meeting point for artist and art lovers to share and learn from each other.

Her approach to art and teaching is more traditional however they teach mixed media techniques as well, so that the students can choose their preferred approach. The students concentrate in learning the various techniques and so they can relax later and just use art for their enjoyment and peace.

We certainly enjoy this approach Mona and wish you every success with your school!
